WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW AT FISHER
One Community LG is a collaboration between parents, schools, and the greater Los Gatos community to elevate the educational experience for our children beyond the basic state-funded curriculum. This is how we invest in our students and schools. Our suggested ask is $1,600 per student.

Dear Fisher Families,
I hope you found our Back to School Night to be informative and enjoyable. We thank you again for your patience with our rescheduling of that event.
Thank you to our HSC and SAC (School Advisory Council) for our work together at our combined meeting on Tuesday, September 19th. We were able to approve the HSC budget for the year and attend to other Fisher business. The agenda and minutes for both of these meetings are posted on our Fisher website.
We are very happy to finally be settling into a routine! Our first several weeks found us with schedule changes and such due to a variety of circumstances. For the next six weeks, we will be able to hum along in a standard pattern which will serve students and staff well.
Thank you for your continued support.
Take care.

DO YOU KNOW?
Do you know One Community LG funds Noon Time Sports, Student Clubs, and counselors at Fisher?
All Fisher students are also provided with the opportunity to participate in intramural sports during their lunch period. Our Noon Sports Coordinator, Toby Fisher, organizes many sports options, including 3v3 basketball, pickleball, flag football, and soccer. Students are active participants in choosing the next intramural sport by voting for their choice. The students are then responsible for forming teams, naming their team, and participating in each sport.
Student Clubs are another opportunity for students to explore their individual interests at Fisher. Clubs are led by staff members and offerings include: poetry, circus, video games, chess, environmental, knitting, AI, newspaper, and more. Finding and making connections with classmates who share the same interests is a key component of the social and emotional development of tweens.
When students are needing a place to chill and relax, the Wellness Center is open to all students during their lunch period as an option for connecting with friends or meeting with our counselors. Our One Community LG funded counselor Savannah Henry is there to play games or just talk. Counselors are available to all students.
Ask your child to tell you what they enjoy doing during their lunch period. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit www.onecommunitylg.org.

APPLE WATCH OWNERS
Get started with Schooltime on Apple Watch
Did you know that you can set your child’s Apple Watch to “schooltime mode”?
We would GREATLY appreciate it if you could support us at school by setting your child’s watch to this mode for school. Smart Watches should only be used to tell the time during the school day. This expectation was shared with all students during their English class recently. Many other Smart Watch brands offer schooltime-type mode options. We encourage you to set this on your child’s Smart Watch.

MATH OLYMPIADS TEAM
There are 3 different, voluntary math avenues at Fisher: (a) Math Olympiads team, (b) MathCounts team, and (c) AMC8 math competition.
MATH OLYMPIADS TEAM
- This is a parent run organization.
- It typically runs from October through March and includes 5 different math contests.
- It can potentially host a 6th grade, a 7th grade, and an 8th grade team.
- Currently we don’t have any parents that have signed up to run a team but that’s a work in progress.
- We will be reaching out to parents in the community through the Wednesday Fisher Flyer soon.
- If interested in running a team, please note that we have every lesson prepared and digitized. We will hold a training for first time parent coaches.
- Contact Mr. Santillana if interested in coaching: nsantillana@lgusd.org
MATHCOUNTS TEAM
Students can sign up to try out during our Club Fair, at lunch, on 9/15/23.
Mr. Santillana will be the coach and can only take 14 kids. Students with the top scores on the preliminary test will be chosen for the team. All grades are welcome. - Contact Mr. Santillana with questions: nsantillana@lgusd.org
- This is our most competitive team. Fisher made it to the State-level competition in 22.23, last year.
- Tryouts will be sometime between 9/15 and 9/30. The Team will train from October into February. Competition series begins in late February.
- This is a whole school site math competition. It is a national competition.
- Ms. Aimee Wise will be the teacher organizing this competition.
- Contest is held in January, and administered by our math teachers during the school day.
- More information to follow later this Fall semester through our Wednesday Fisher Flyer.
- Testing window: January 18-24th
- The test is during the school day for Advanced Math classes with an option for other students to participate.
- Contact Aimee Wise, awise@lgusd.org with questions.

DO YOU KNOW?
Do you know how many opportunities your child has at Fisher Middle School? One Community LG focuses on providing students with many options so that students can make their own choices concerning their education. One Community LG funds many of these electives thanks to contributions from parents like you.
Students can choose elective classes such as dance, STEAM, band, choir, or orchestra. During lunch, students can choose to participate in intramural sports, organized by our Noon Sports Coordinator, or relax in the Wellness Center with our many counselors. Student clubs at Fisher are also funded through One Community LG, as well as many after school community building activities, such as the recent Camp Trojan.
All 6th grade students participate in OCLG funded electives since they are either in the Music Program or the Wheel, which includes dance and STEAM. Many 7th grade students continue with the Wheel, which includes STEAM, or are in the Music Program, and some 8th grade students participate in both Spanish and music as their electives. Regardless of which elective your student participates in, it is important that all students be given the opportunity to make a choice at any point in their Fisher career.
Ask your child to tell you what they did in their elective or at lunch this week. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will fund, please visit www.onecommunitylg.org.
